MT. PLEASANT – Janet E. Johnson, beloved wife, mother and grandmother, died at Woodland Hospice in Mt. Pleasant, Michigan on Sunday, May 8, 2022. She was 79.

A memorial service for Janet will be held on Saturday, June 4, 2022 at 11 a.m. with Pastor Julie Greyerbiehl officiating. Light refreshments will be served immediately after the service. The family will receive friends from 10 a.m. until the time of the service.

Janet was born on August 5, 1942 in Houghton, Michigan, to Donald and Ruth MacDonald. She attended Houghton Public Schools and earned a degree in Elementary Education from Northern Michigan University. She taught kindergarten and first grade early in her career and later taught reading to elementary students.

Janet is survived by her beloved husband, Ray Johnson. The couple met at Northern Michigan University and married in June 1965. They lived in Green Bay, Wisconsin, Bloomington, Indiana and Salt Lake City, Utah before settling in Mt. Pleasant, Michigan. She is also survived by her children; Marjy, Jenny and Jeff (Jennifer) and grandchildren; Jack, Ellie, Will, Luke and Ben; his brother, Donald MacDonald and his niece, Lisa MacDonald.

Janet was a devoted wife, mother and friend. She and her husband proudly attended countless concerts and games for their children and grandchildren. Janet was active at the PTO school, a Boy Scout and Boy Scout leader and a strong supporter of her children’s education. She also enjoyed a large group of lifelong friends, gardening, CMU basketball, and volunteering in the community through PEO and Christmas Outreach.
