CORPUS CHRISTI, TX – ‘Safe Fun-Fit at the Bayfront’ in partnership with the Corpus Christi – Nueces County Public Health District’s Tuberculosis Program will promote World Tuberculosis Day with a “In motion against tuberculosis” 3 km fun run/walk Saturday, March 26 at 7:30 a.m. The event is not timed. Attendees are encouraged to wear red in support of World TB Day at this event, and the first 100 attendees will receive red World TB Day bandanas. Moreover, the weekly “Safe Fun-Fit at the Bayfront” fitness classes start at 8:00 a.m. which includes “Back to Basics Fitness”, Yoga or Zumba. All attendees receive a punch card to register each Saturday attended. A completed punch card is eligible for a prize.

World Tuberculosis Day is observed on March 24 each year to commemorate the day in 1882 when Dr. Robert Koch announced his discovery of Mycobacterium tuberculosis, the bacteria that causes tuberculosis infection and disease. This remarkable breakthrough paved the way for the development of methods for diagnosing and treating these health problems.

The World Health Organization states that approximately 30,000 people are diagnosed with TB and more than 4,100 people die from TB every day, although it is preventable and treatable. World Tuberculosis Day is an opportunity to raise public awareness and understanding of the medical, societal and economic impact of tuberculosis infection and disease.

The path to fitness the route begins along the seawall at The Water’s Edge, heading north towards the American Bank Center with the U-turn just before the barge dock entrance. Walk, jog, run or cycle along the designated 1.5 mile event fitness lane (one way). Our community partner, HEB, provides fruit and water to all attendees.

In coordination with Victor Betancourt of VFit Productions and the city’s Parks and Recreation Department, the city will offer “Safe Fun-Fit at the Bayfront” exercise and wellness events for ages eight and up, of all ages. abilities and skill levels, Saturdays from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m. at Bord de l’Eau, 402 S. Shoreline Blvd. “Back to Basics” fitness, yoga and Zumba will take place at the Islanders Pavilion next to the playground. The course schedule is available online.

Register online for fitness classes Class sessions are limited to 30 participants per class. Participants are encouraged to bring their own yoga mat and water, if available, for their workout.

The public is also invited to provide feedback and suggestions on “Safe Fun-Fit at the Bayfront” by participating in the short online poll now until March 31, 2022.
