Storrs, Conn. – UConn wins its second game against St. Joe’s on a foot hit by Reese Guevarra. The Huskies now go 34-15 this season.

Elise Sokolsky started in the circle in the Huskies’ opener. She played six out of five rounds.

UConn came first on the board in the third inning with a scoring Guevarra single Erika Coreth giving the Huskies a 1-0 lead. Olivia Sappington added to the lead in the fourth inning with a sack fly to score Lexi Hastings making it 2-0.

The Hawks took the lead in the fifth inning by scoring five runs, which gave them the lead for good in this one.

Meghan O’Neil dazzled in Game 2 for the Huskies. She pitched 6.2 scoreless innings, scoring a game-high 15 strikeouts. The day she finished with 17 punches after throwing a scoreless frame in Game 1.

The Huskies struggled to get the bats started in a pitching duel. It was Guevarra’s big hit to seal the Huskies’ victory in the bottom of the seventh. She chose in the center to score Sami Barnett giving the Huskies their fifth win of the season.

UConn will be back in action next weekend at Storrs as they close out the regular season against conference foe Villanova.
