Storrs, Conn. – UConn wins Game 2 against Creighton 7-3, earning its fifth straight series.

Meghan O’Neil got the start in Game 2 for the Huskies, going 2.2 innings with two strikeouts.

The Huskies scored early and got crossed often in the first four innings. They took a 2-0 lead in the first set. Jana Sanden single to right field to score Briana Marcelino. Reese Guevarra scored in a pitch to extend the lead.

UConn added to the lead in the second with Marcelino’s brace down the right field line to score Sami Barnett. Marcelino scored later to make the Huskies 4-0.

The Blue Jays replied in the third with three runs to make it 4-3 for the Huskies. UConn responded right away in the third with a run to make it 5-3.

Elise Sokolsky came on as relief for O’Neil and closed the game pitching 4.1 innings while giving up only two hits and striking out seven.

The Huskies added confidence in the fourth to extend the lead to 7-3. Marcelino chose left field to mark Barnett. pinch runner, Hollis Wivellcame to score on a field of Hastings.

The Huskies move to 12-2 in the BIG EAST game and will look to complete the series sweep tomorrow at 11:00 a.m.
